In other words, are you doing it YOUR WAY?
Clearly this seems to be a pattern for me these days (my recent Manifesto posts) and a question I seem to be asking myself quite often.
Am I doing things MY WAY?
And no, I don’t mean in a half-ass, throw all caution to the wind kind of way.
I mean, “does this FEEL right for ME?”
No… I’m not going to get all “Woo Woo” on you (again). This is about really looking at what is right for YOUR business and YOUR brand.
Let’s take my site as an example.
The WordPress Chick
There’s not a whole lot of guessing in terms of what my site is about, right?
But WordPress is a pretty big niche… (I think if I knew how big WordPress was going to be when I purchased the domain name not sure I would have proceeded – it’s that fear thing again. Fortunately, as they say, ignorance is bliss!).
But, that I’ve been able to carve out a space in this niche is pretty friggin awesome!
BUT… when people come to my site, do they REALLY know what I do?
- Who I help?
- HOW I help?
- What I sell?
- What I teach?
Not so much.

(reference from ‘Lost in Space’.. OLD TV show.. before my time too… I’m just a geek about quoting things).
What does this mean?
Well, as I’ve been doing all this self-reflecting and declaring of BIG statements– it means I need to get my shizzle together on this site and make it crystal-frickin-clear what I do here.
No, I’m not changing themes or anything (that is a LOT of work doing a full site makeover… you’ll be seeing these colors for a while)- but I’m going to change up the homepage (in a pretty significant way), am moving a LOT of my videos somewhere else (coming soon… and nope, it’s not the video club.. more on that later) and am tweaking the way I do things in my business.
I think more than ANYTHING, as you’re building your business, your site, your brand, you CANNOT compromise when it comes to the way you do things. I don’t care how many guru’s, coaches, six-figure bloggers tell you otherwise.
Doing what someone else says you SHOULD do, when you know in your GUT it’s not who you are or what you WANT to do, will ultimately lead to misery and a lesson you don’t really need to learn.
And I’m not talking about those lessons where we gain wisdom and insight.
I’m talking about THOSE moments.. you know the ones…
“I’M NEVER doing something like that again” or, better yet, “I KNEW that wasn’t right, but I didn’t trust my gut” moments.
Ever had those moments?
Of course you have (and feel free to share them below… there’s certainly something refreshing about sharing our mistakes publicly… all of the sudden they don’t seem like ‘mistakes’ anymore).
But I digress.
Back to Frank.
Whether or not you’re a Sinatra fan, you’ve probably heard the song “My Way” (if not, watch the video below, just a classic!).
The idea to create things that “Frank” would approve of came when I was talking to a good friend & fellow marketer about marketing, being yourself, blah, blah, blah.
(gone are the days of smarmy, crazy, hypey IM launches… they just don’t cut it anymore! AMEN!)
And it just seemed FUN!
SO now I have ‘Frank Approved’ posts.
I’ve always said I want this song played at my memorial service someday (might seem morbid, but it’s certainly a statement I intend to live up to), so I decided to make sure I’m LIVING my life and growing my business…
